Some News From My Neck of The Woods.......

Hello My Dear World.....

How is everyone tonight ?? Here in my neck of the woods which as you all know is Atlanta, Georgia is was reported by the weather man that it was 89 degrees but take it from me it was more like 100 degrees and continuing. Of course there are a few things going on in my neck of the woods that I thought I would share with you. Our mayor Bill Campbell was sentenced to 30 months in prison. There was a 6-year federal investigation into Campbell's behavior while he was mayor. Campbell served two terms as Atlanta's mayor from 1994 to 2002. He was convicted in March on 3 counts of tax evasion but he was acquitted on racketeering charges and taking thousands of dollars in bribes. In addition to prison time he was ordered then mayor Campbell to pay almost $63,000 in back taxes and a $6,000 fine and he has to serve a year on probation following his prison term. Prosecutors contented that Campbell had evaded paying taxes on about $200,000 in unreported income. It is reported that Campbell will probably serve his time in a minimum-security prison camp.

In other news the Atlanta Braves lost on Tuesday to the Florida Marlins 4-1. The loss dropped Atlanta to 1-4 on the road trip with two more games left in Florida. Last night they also lost once more to the Florida Marlins 6-5. The Atlanta Braves are now 12 games behind the first-place New York Mets. I don't know what happened to the Braves or if they will make a comeback any time soon. They have to play the Florida Marlins once more but I don't know if they will win this game or lose once more I don't really think it matters now when all the games they've lost so far .

I read in Germany that there has been some rioting yesterday. There has been some stadium brawls and bringing banned substances into stadiums. Those who were arrested in the riots will have to report to their probation officers twice daily, once between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and once between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. I read that the trouble started with a riot in Dortmund in certain individuals threw bottles and chairs and shot fireworks. The incident occured before the Germany-Poland game and two miles from the stadium. It was reported that certain individuals had injuries and no police or bystanders were hurt. There were 12 arrests surrounding England's World Cup opener against Paraguay, despite the presence of fans in Frankfurt. It was also reported that there was rioting Saturday in London and Liverpool and a soccor-related stabbing in Glasgow, Scotland. I read that more than 3,500 individuals will have to surrender their passports for the duration of the World Cup which was reported by Andrin Cooper who is a spokesman for English soccer's governing body, the Football Association. It was also reported that more than 300 police officers from the 12 European nations are in Germany. 44 English officers are in Nuremburg some in uniform and some working undercover. I don't know what's going on in that part of the world but I hope that everyone is able to enjoy seeing the games and having a fun time. I wish everyone in that part of the world all the happiness in the world for great games and lots of memories while at the World Cup.

How are things in your neck of the woods dear world ??? I would like to wish everyone a wonderful evening. Good night.

Man, the Braves are really stinking it up now.  They were doing pretty good, closing the gap on the Mets, until June started.  Wow, talk about a June swoon; I think they've only won twice this month.  If they don't pull it together real soon, the season will be over before the All-Star break.

To bad the Braves are messing up. Ken's Mother used to really watch those braves. She used to stay up until all hours when the games ran overtime late at night. She was in her early 80's when she did that. He also had a customer who was in her nineties who did that too. It's hot here also and the ground is so dry. Have a good day. Helen

I don't know why it is that football brings out the violence in the fans. It doesn't seem to happen with any other sport, at least, not as much.
Sorry to hear your Braves arent faring very well. B. x

Nice to know the Mayor is getting his.....politicians ARE crooks.  Wilmington's mayor resigned to take a promotion in the bank he works for.  Our coastal NC is 83 and hot with no breeze.  But I am so grateful that I live on the coast.  Hurricane's or not!  Dance recital is this weekend YIPPEE! then it's 2 weeks off before the summer session...........go ahead, take my money!

Rioting in London and Liverpool?  As a Brit I can assure you that there was not. I lives than forty miles from London.  Why do the papers print these things.
As for your mayor, there is always corruption in high places, a lot of it we never get to know about.

It is true about the passports being handed in.  We have identified the soccer thugs and hooligans so they are not forbidden to travel to games, they have to hand their passports in so that they cannot travel.  English soccer fans gets such bad press but we are not the only ones and fans of other countries deliberately try to cause trouble and blame it on the Brits.
