Inspired After The Shooting in Dekalb, Illinois

Hello dear world

How are you all today ? I wanted to come by and chat for just a few minutes. I heard about the shooting in Dekalb, Illinois at NIU and I was saddened to hear the news. I thought back to the shooting at Virginia Tech and I wanted to come by and hear what you think.

Of course everyone has a opinion of how it happened, how it can be avoided and how it can be eliminated in the future. I do think that we need tighter security in our nation's schools but that is just the small amount of the problem.

The bigger issue is...Gun Control

What do you think should be done about Gun Control my dear world ? Do you feel that there should be laws for Gun Control put on the federal level or should there be a consideration on the fact that in our Constitution, it states that "We as citizens have the right to bare arms" ? Should we have the right to bare arms ?

My question is how did the guy who did the shooting get the guns and how did he get on the campus with the guns he was carrying ? Did he have a gun permit ? I also heard that he was on medication but he had stopped taking it so how was he able to get the gun he had ?

My dear world should we take another look at our Gun Control laws ??? What are your thoughts ?? Should we also take a look at the NRA ??

I was just wanting to get some feed back on what you think about this so I can get some clear thoughts on this. Please do leave me any thoughts you have on this issue. Thanks for listening my dear world.

Take care everyone

Monae,

The man was a fully licensed gun holder. He must have suffered a form of mental illness, and a major problem with that sort of affliction is that people do not recognise that they are ill. As a result they won't take their medicines. Nothing could have prevented this, except a stronger mental health service which actually checks up on people regularly.

Hi Monae, This is my second attempt I was switched of by AOL last time !!   Well we don't have the right to bare arms in the UK. We have to have a licence which is quite hard to come by. However it dosn't stop shootings from occurring...more and more frequently. I really don't know what the answer is. In the case of yesterdays shootings I don't suppose it could be prevented when the young lad had access to guns, his mental state was such that I don't suppose he really was  "in control"  Maybe it should be made much harder to obtain a gun licence.
Have a lovely weekend  Love Sybil x

Monae,

I own guns. Several. Many. I've obtained them all legally. And I for one, would never even consider, or have a fleeting thought of shooting another soul. More gun control, more laws surrounding guns, would not take the gun out of someone's hand who is mentally ill, or determined to kill another human being. In countries where guns aren't allowed, the people who have the mentality to do such a thing, acquire them anyway and do their evil.

Above all, what I would never, ever want to see, is the guns taken away from law abiding citizens who would never, ever dream of hurting another soul, and letting the criminals run rampant with the illegal arms, because lets face it, they care not for the laws of our lands.

And for the mentally ill.......there is your gray zone, the area that needs consideration. Should someone who has been in a mental intuition, or under the care of a doctor, or taking medications to even moods, or treat a serious condition be allowed to bear arms? An unstable mind, can trigger unpredictable situations~~

I own guns. I think we should have that right. Gun control will only keep the law abiding citizens from obtaining guns....'cause the bad guys will get 'em anyway.
What we need is better care for the mentally ill in this country.
Just my opinion.

I carry a handgun for self defense.
It is legal in my state and I have a CCP (concealed carry permit.)
I know how to shoot and I practice at least once a week with a variety of guns, including the one I carry regularly..
"Gun Control" will not keep criminals or unstable individuals from obtaining guns, it only limits places law abiding citizens can legally carry their weapons.
If "gun free zones" worked than surely this guy would have known that guns are not allowed on a university campus.
Gun free zones only makes people into sitting ducks.
Wouldn't it have been nice if one of those women at the Lane Bryant had had a gun in her purse and been able to use it?
Maybe she could have saved some lives.
Responsible people carry lawfully and carefully.
You have a right to defend yourself.

Gun control is a touchy area in politics today.  Republicans are for none of it and many left wingers want much more than we have.  I don't think it is an easy answer.  People should have a right to bear arms, to protect ourselves against enemies both foreign and domestic.  I do believe there are some types of weapons that are beyond protection and border on warlike.  Even if we had gun control it won't stop things like what happened at NIU and VA Tech.  Where there is a will there is a way.  I do believe that some people should not be allowed to carry weapons, but then again they will get them one way or another.  Have a good weekend.

That shooting was awfully sad.  I'm not going to get into politics, we don't own a gun, and I don't want one.  I wish they would get rid of most of them.  I have such a fear someone will point a gun at me, I have dreamt of it before.  Anyway, have a happy Sunday.
